Top 5 Conscious Products from Small Businesses

Do you ever roll your eyes when you hear the words “organic,” “nontoxic,” and even “small businesses?” Well, these buzzwords are making positive changes for us!

I’m sharing 5 positive products you should know about that might just be organic or nontoxic, and created by small businesses! We might pay a little more for these items, but we’re getting better quality products.

Keep in mind, these small businesses are on our side – many of them offer a discount when we sign up for their emails. How cool is that?

Just a little disclaimer here: I’m not being paid to advertise any of these small businesses or products. I’m sharing these with you because I want to!

Here’s a little snippet about each product and creator!

Strawesome hand-makes colorful glass straws.

Strawesome is upping our straw game, and yes, that’s a thing! This is a family-owned business, and founder Daedra personally designs and hand-makes the glass straws.

She uses a torch for glass blowing, and she can make clear straws or colorful straws with designs on them, based upon online orders. Here’s a cool video showing how she makes the straws.

Daedra started making straws to decrease the amount of plastic straws we use. She wants to raise awareness to improve the environment, helping keep streets cleaner and animals in the ocean free from plastic.

Strawesome comes in all different colors and designs – even with little penguins on them! You may even customize a straw to pick your color, design, AND length! A standard Strawesome straw is called Slightly Bent, an 8 inch straw with a small bend to drink from.

I recommend ordering a straw cleaner with it. Yep, those are a thing, and they are easy to use and clean the straws!

Check out Strawesome online! Sign up for their email list and save 10% on your order. Strawesome also offer sales throughout the year, ranging from 15 -20% off orders.

Cheri is the lady boss behind Orglamix. She started selling products on Etsy, and now she’s up to offering more than 600 products on her website!

I tried their Tropic Kit shadows, Coconut and Guava, which are sparkly purple and bronze colors. Shop the online Orglamix store here. Sign up for their emails and receive a $10 gift card.

Bloom Naturals keeps it real with natural skin care.

Bloom Naturals creates healthy skin care solutions to treat acne and other skin conditions. This is another small business run by one woman, Molly. Bloom Naturals really cares about the ingredients in their products.

Bloom Naturals does not include water in their products since water is a sneaky little component known to carry mold and bacteria. In order to keep water in skin care products, many skin care products contain preservatives. Bloom Naturals wrote an interesting, detailed article explaining more about this.

They exclude the toxins, alcohols, and preservatives to include healthy oils from fruits, vegetables, and proteins. I tried out “The Spot,” a rolling on-the-spot acne treatment for trouble areas, and it smelled great! The Spot contains avocado oil and other natural or essential oils.

Check out the Bloom Naturals website for more information!

Little Ondine provides nontoxic, peel-off nail polish.

Okay, so, Little Ondine isn’t such a small business anymore…but they do provide nontoxic nail polish! Say hello to your new favorite polish. It’s made from natural resin and water, and it doesn’t have that nose-pinching chemical smell!

My friend and fellow blogger Kathy of Kreadiv Misfit introduced me to this nifty nail polish.

Little Ondine nail polish comes in a wide range of colors, so you can still grab that sparkly polish and even your favorite matte polish. Three coats of nail polish will do the trick.

The nail polish PEELS right off, so you don’t even have to worry about using nail polish remover (less chemicals, again!).

Little Ondine is available online and at Urban Outfitters.

Eco-Me washes our clothes with nontoxic laundry detergent.

There’s tons of nontoxic detergent options out there. You might recognize Eco-Me laundry detergent from this blog post. I tried five different detergents until I found my very favorite.

Eco-Me Lavender Blossom smells great, works well, and gets clothes clean with all those pesky little chemicals! This is a plant-based detergent, so it’s toxin-free.

Nontoxic, organic, healthy small businesses spotlight

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) rates products based on their ingredients and uses. Eco-Me received a “B” rating, and it’s highly recommended.

Since using this detergent, I’ve used less detergent and washed more clothes than in the past. I really recommend this to anyone looking to use a healthy laundry detergent (no more toxic detergents on our bodies!).

Check out the Eco-Me detergent on their website.

Supporting small businesses with quality products.

These small businesses are rocking it with their quality products and their values. Let me know if you’ve tried any of these, or if you recommend businesses of your own.

I’d love to hear about your experience in the comments below!
