Sprinkles Cupcakes GrandOpening_DisneySprings

Sprinkles Cupcakes earns its mouse ears

Sprinkles Cupcakes, the newest delectable addition to Disney Springs, had its grand opening this past weekend. And I had no idea.

Sprinkles_Cupcakes_BoxThe chain has been around since 2005. According to the Sprinkles Cupcakes website, its first shop opened in Beverly Hills, and it’s considered to be the first cupcake bakery of its kind. Similar to I-Drive’s Sugar Factory, Sprinkles gained fame from its celeb-induced crowds and high-priced sweets.

Stumbling upon the shop

My friend Caitlyn and I were strolling the streets of the expanded Disney Springs (I still call it Downtown Disney), wanting to get a glimpse of Sprinkles. We asked for directions, found the place just past Raglan Road, and saw two lines with at least 20 guests in each. People must really love this place!Sprinkles_Cupcakes_SideView_Disney_Springs

I asked one of the workers outside if the lines were always this long. He told us, “Today is our grand opening!” Caitlyn and I knew we had to stay to experience this.

We waited in line for a good 30 minutes to order our quaint cupcakes. This was enough time for us to sign up for Sprinkles Perks on the chain’s website, and we immediately received an offer for a free cupcake!

We hadn’t even stepped inside the place yet, and we were already up 5 bucks!

The inside “scoop”

The line was worth the wait. We people-watched and kept cool in the shade. Our line waited for the bakery while a second line waited for the Sprinkles Cupcake ATM. That’s right. You can order your very own cupcake by using a touch screen, swiping a credit/debit card, and your cupcake will be presented to you right on the spot. #technology

Once inside Sprinkles, there was a decent amount of space to walk around, sit down, watch the cupcake decorators, or wait in line to order. The bakery sells cupcakes, shakes, cookies, sweet sandwiches, ice cream and even doggie treats.

Inside the bakery reminded me of Florean Fortescue Ice-Cream Parlour in Diagon Alley with its open floor space. It’s a small enough space for employees and large enough space for guests.

I ordered a salted caramel cupcake for my freebie. It was pretty much TO DIE FOR. I could taste the salt right on top of the sweet caramel frosting. It was the perfect treat for a hot Florida day, and I was a happy cupcake camper.
